Homemade Cleaners a la Jenna

So, using coupons you can get pretty good deals on cleaners. My mom has always made her own multi-purpose cleaner and once I had kids I didn't like the thought of all of the random chemicals on their toys, eating surfaces, etc. So I started making my own cleaners. I used a few different recipes before settling on my own version.

Multi-Purpose Cleaner
My go-to Kitchen, Tub, Sink, Counter cleaner. I even use it on toilets and dog messes.

12 oz distilled white vinegar, hot
10 oz BLUE dawn (has to be the blue kind, I have used the Wal-Mart brand and it was fine as long as it is the blue kind)
1 tsp Castile Soap (optional, use to cut the vinegar smell if it bothers you)

Mix all ingredients together in spray bottle and go!

Homemade Febreeze
I use to cover stinky boy and stinky dog smell

2 cups boiling water
1/8 c. baking soda
1/8 c. fabric softener of your choice (this is the scent of the febreeze)

Mix all ingredients in spray bottle and go!

Baby Wipes
I use for my baby's sensitive bottom.

-Cut roll of Viva (or your preference) paper towels in half with serrated knife. I have found that Viva hold up best when wet. Pull out the cardboard (it is easier than it sounds)
-Boil 2 cups of water.
-Mix 2 TBSP baby soap (I use Aveeno) and 1 TBSP baby oil in hot water.
-Let mixutre cool to room temperature (this is important, if not, wipes will get moldy, I found out from experience)
-Pour mixture (once cool) into a Tupperware that fits half of the paper towel roll and has a secure fitting lid. Place half of the paper towel roll in water and put lid on. Wait 10 minutes and flip container over to soak all of the wipes.
-Pull from the middle and go!

Multi-purpose cleaning wipes
Use like lysol wipes.

Same basic process as above but instead of baby oil and soap use 1/2 c. of multi-purpose cleaner, and decrease hot water to 1 1/2 cups.

One roll of paper towels could make a container of baby wipes and multipurpose wipes.

One day I would like to get cute matching bottles for all of my cleaners, but for now I am just using the old bottles that I have. I also write the recipe on the back of the bottle in sharpie so that I can look at it for an easy reference. It is so easy to make these and they're a fraction of the cost as store bought because you aren't paying for all of the chemicals and WATER. Seriously. You'd be amazed at how much money we pay for water that is in products.

For instance, I got the Downy infusions for $2 on Amazon with free shipping, everyone has baking soda on hand and water is free. So why pay $4 for a store bought bottle when you can pay cents!

Also, I buy the blue dawn with coupons, even at full price this container was around $5, the Castile soap is pricey but I have had this bottle for forever and you don't have to use it, and the huge bottle of vinegar was under $2. So for $7 (or less!), you can have close to a year's worth of cleaner that can be used anywhere! You would pay at least $3 for one bottle retail and one bottle lasts me 1 month-6 weeks.

I like to save money and I like to be as chemical free as possible. This is a good way to do both!

My friends at the Honest Company also make some good cleaners! I've used their soap and laundry detergent and am a big fan! Check them out!
