Breckenridge 2021

It's been a minute since I've posted but I've had time lately and wanted to make sure I captured our  2021  Summer Vacation to Breckenridge, Co here for memories!

We went to Estes Park last summer and had a great time but wanted to try something new this year. We drove over two days (its about a 13 hour drive *without stops) and we got the CUTEST air bnb at the Kansas/Colorado line for our trip on the way there. It was an old church made into apartments and was so fun. We will definitely stay there again. The kids played a lot of video games and watched a lot of movies on the drive. We took our home internet with us and it worked the whole way which was super nice.

Bryan's cousin and her husband live in Colorado so we met them for lunch and to play at a park when we got to Denver. Their kids are the same age as our kids and they have so much fun together. They're actually in the process of moving to Texas so they'll be way closer to us and we are very excited about it! Anyways, we met them at an amazing park in Denver and the kids got to play in the splash park part and were so glad to be able to stretch their legs!

I did a quick Whole Foods trip and a Walmart grocery order before we headed into the mountains to our house in Breckenridge. The house itself ended up being west of Breckenridge and was almost as high as the tree line. The elevation was about 12k ft and we definitely felt the altitude but none of us got sick.

We booked the cabin through Air Bnb and couldn't have had a better place to stay. The house was 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. It only had one living area, in the future we'd like two with the kids, but it was a really good size otherwise. Hiking and exploring was LITERALLY steps from our front door. We love to be outdoor exploring with the kids and other than the house, our trip was relatively inexpensive, because we just did a lot of exploring outdoors!

We forged our on path to the top of the mountain where there was a beautiful lake named Crystal lake. Usually there is a fairly obvious hiking path but a lot of it was still snow covered so we did exploring and found our own way. The hike itself was about 3 miles but took us several hours. The weather was absolutely perfect in the 60s and 70s.

This is the beautiful Crystal Lake

Our kids were amazing hikers. This was the first time we went without a hiking backpack and didn't carry the little two hardly at all. The key is lots of breaks and snacks. Their favorite thing was playing in the leftover snow. We hiked in this same place for several days in a row. Bryan's cousin and her family drove over for the day to hike with us one day and it was one of my favorite days ever.

My parents came to join us for the back half of the week. My dad struggled with the altitude a little bit but was still able to enjoy it some. My mom did a lot of hiking with us in our favorite spot by the house and then we ventured over to another mountain that was about a mile down the road from where we were staying. It was so good to have them there with us.

One afternoon we went to pan for gold and to ate dinner at a park where there was live music. The kids had SO MUCH FUN panning for gold!! Another afternoon Bryan and I snuck away to ride the gondolas in Breckenridge to the top of the peaks and grabbed a coffee for a fun little day date!

We had the very best trip! We drove home all in one day and it was a VERY long day. We were glad to be home and cannot wait to go back next summer!
